GROW by Good Combinator

Forward Deployed Engineer Certification

The FDE path trains builders to translate messy partner problems into scoped AI workflows, measurable evaluation plans, working demos, and adoption-ready evidence.

Free foundations. Paid implementation. Real ecosystem access.

Why this exists

AI projects fail when demos never become workflows.

The FDE program gives GROW candidates a practical operating model for the gap between model capability and useful deployment. The emphasis is evidence: what problem matters, what workflow changes, how success is measured, and what has to be true before adoption.

Problem framing

Demos are not deployments.

Candidates learn to define a user, job, counterfactual, constraint set, and evaluation bar before building.

Partner translation

Organizations need translators.

FDE work connects technical possibility to sponsor needs, domain language, adoption risk, and accountable implementation.

Credential evidence

Certification should prove work.

The credential path is built around artifacts, review, and a final evidence package rather than attendance alone.

What an FDE does

The role blends engineering, solutions work, and deployment judgment.

Good Combinator keeps three FDE tracks separate so candidates can show the kind of value they are best prepared to create.

  • Technical FDEBuilds prototypes, integrations, data flows, evaluation harnesses, and implementation scaffolding.
  • Solutions FDELeads discovery, stakeholder translation, workflow mapping, demo preparation, and adoption planning.
  • Platform FDEConnects reusable infrastructure, internal tools, governance, and repeatable deployment patterns.

Program structure

How the path works

  1. 1. Start with Course 1.Use the free foundations course to learn problem selection, evaluation, AI economics, and adoption planning.
  2. 2. Move through implementation.Courses 2 through 8 and GROW labs deepen the work with templates, reviews, and practical builds.
  3. 3. Submit artifacts.Candidates produce discovery briefs, workflow maps, rubrics, prototype evidence, and demo materials.
  4. 4. Complete review. The certification gate checks technical clarity, partner communication, value measurement, and deployment readiness.

Candidate outputs

What candidates build

  • Discovery briefA concise partner problem, user, job, constraint, and desired outcome.
  • Workflow mapThe current process, proposed AI workflow, handoffs, risks, and adoption dependencies.
  • Evaluation rubricSuccess criteria, failure modes, measurable thresholds, and a review plan.
  • Prototype or demoA working artifact or high-fidelity implementation walkthrough tied to the rubric.
  • Evidence packageThe final record of decisions, results, feedback, and next implementation steps.

Fit

Who should use this path

Technical builders

Engineers, AI-agent developers, data practitioners, and product-minded builders who need a deployment-facing credential path.

Operators and founders

People close to customers, workflows, and implementation risk who can turn ambiguity into a scoped AI build.

Partners and sponsors

Organizations that want emerging FDE talent trained around concrete briefs, reviewable artifacts, and deployment evidence.

Florida scholarship families

Request a review packet before assuming scholarship payment.

Florida scholarship funds may be possible for some families, but eligibility depends on the SFO, scholarship status, category rules, available balance, provider status, and documentation. Good Combinator can provide a public explainer and review packet for SFO review.

FAQ

FDE program questions

Is this part of GROW?+

Yes. The FDE certification path lives under GROW by Good Combinator. Course 1 is the free gateway; the deeper implementation and certification work sits in the paid GROW path.

Is FDE one single job type?+

No. Good Combinator separates Technical FDE, Solutions FDE, and Platform FDE tracks while holding candidates to a shared deployment evidence standard.

What is the certification bar?+

The bar is practical evidence: clear discovery, credible workflow mapping, a usable evaluation rubric, a partner-ready demo, and an implementation plan that explains the next move.

Where should candidates start?+

Start with Course 1: Forward Deployed Engineering Foundations, then apply with the Forward Deployed Engineer path selected when ready for review.

Can Florida scholarship funds help pay for FDE tuition?+

Possibly. Florida families may request a scholarship review packet for FDE tuition, but the family's scholarship funding organization makes the final decision based on scholarship type, SFO rules, payment category, available balance, provider status, and documentation.

Is reimbursement guaranteed if a family pays first?+

No. Good Combinator can provide receipts and reimbursement documentation, but the scholarship funding organization may approve, deny, or request more documentation.

Will Good Combinator access my SFO account?+

No. Families submit through their own SFO portal. Good Combinator does not ask for scholarship usernames, passwords, MFA codes, Social Security numbers, or bank credentials.

Next step

Apply when you can show the problem you want to deploy against.

Use the FDE path if you are ready to turn a real workflow problem into a scoped implementation plan, reviewable artifact set, and evidence package.
